Incredible Storybook

"Incredible Storybook" by Miss Smith's

Plot: The book relates the story of a teacher with a quite curious storybook.
When she reads her book, it's like all the characters inside come alive!

When reading a book, are you only reading those black lines?
no of course, we are imagining the story within our mind.

It is the same while listening to a story,
I remember when I was a child and I used to listen to story,
It would sound so real that it seemed I could even see them.

I think the book relates how story can be fascinated and be attractive.
It seems that we are being absorbed in the story's universe.

The book is more of an mixture of reality and fiction, I like it.
In the end, we don't even know if it was imagination of just reality.
It is really confusing.

Also, the teacher quite not the type of stereotype one that we usually find in book.
The one with a clean haircut and who wears glasses.
The teacher inside looks cool and quite badass.
She has red hair, it looks really original, I like it.

The colors in the book are really vibrant as well, it is really colorful and warm.

Moses goes to a concert

Plot: Moses and his classmates who are all deaf go to a concert.

I have to admit that I couldn't understand the point of going to a concert if they are all deaf.
I mean going to a concert is for the music. I was like, how could they hear the music if they can't.

But in the end, I was wrong. It wasn't a bad idea after all, it was a great idea.
It is not because they can't hear that they shouldn't go listen to a concert.
They can feel the music, they can feel the vibration of the symphony.

I guess we shouldn't marginalized people who are different from us.
If they want to do something we think they physically can't, we mustn't judge them.
Because in the end, if they really want, they can do it.

I also really like this book, because it teaches us sign languages.
It also teaches children to be more tolerant and make them understand more other people's situation.

Also, this book also gives a lot of courage to children who are in this kind of situation.
The fact that one who leads the orchestra was also a deaf woman, is something I find really touching.
Because it shows deaf children never to give up and that nothing is impossible.
Never set up limits to oneself.

I am quite surprised to see discover those kind of book,
Children's books really are full of surprise and really interesting.
As a young adult, I really enjoyed it.

"When you set your mind to it, you can become anything you want when you grow up"
Very heartwarming message in the end.

Alice in Wonderland chapter 8 心得

Previously I said that I like to read books, but I have to admit that "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Caroll was a quite tough one.

When reading the book, I have to be really concentrated because sometimes I get lost in those nonsense black lines.

However I like the chapter VII "A Mad Tea-Party" where the March Hare, the Hatter and the Dormouse are stuck in time.

I like the personification of the time,

In this chapter, they described Time as someone quite strict and who asked for being respected.
If we don't respect it, he is going to punished us.

But in real life, are we really punished by time?
We usually say that we don't have any time, or if I have time I will do it.
Sometimes it is like we are being controlled by the time.

We usually take time as granted and when we grow up and look back,
we started to realized all the time loss by procrastination or by doing nothing meaningless.
Started to feel regret and trying to catch up the time.
It that a kind of punishment?

Have you ever heard of the proverb "Revenge is a dish best served cold"?
It means that it is best to take your revenge when the person is not aware of it and doesn't see it coming when it happens.
The dish being cold means that we have waited from when it was hot.
it's implied Time.
Is time taking his revenge then?

We can't see the time, but we can feel the effect on it on our body or on our environment, or maybe
or our feelings "Time heals all wounds".
If we take advantage of the time, we can make it an advantage.

Throughout I think Time plays a really important role in this chapter,
Because to be honest, we are living in a society who wants us to be productive and wants fast results. We are being unconsciously being controlled by it.

In addition, the chapter seven seems to be full of nonsense dialogue and unanswerable riddles.
The Hatter who was the one who asked Alice "Why is a raven like a writing-desk?" doesn't even know the answer.

Alice who expected him to know the answer is disappointed in the end.
Growing up doesn't mean being an adult, I think adult is just a word
but not one is really an adult.

When I was young I thought that reaching 20 is being an adult,
But as I am in my 20's, I feel like deep inside me I am still little child.
Who is still afraid of the outside world, afraid of having responsibilities, afraid of relationships.

I think Alice doesn't have to be disappointed or disillusioned about the adult world,
because even Adults are as confused as she is.

I think that those dialogues represented well the society in where we are living in.
Just a confused one, when nothing really makes sense.

In conclusion, I have to say that even if "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" gave me a hard time, I quite enjoyed it.

Chameleon's Colors by Chisato Tashiro

"Chameleon's Colors" by Chisato Tashiro

Plot: It is the Story of a Chameleon who was tired of being unseen, and had the brilliant idea to paint the animals of the jungle.

Character: Chameleon the Chameleon and some others animals.

The story is really really interesting, I really had a good time.
I also really like the drawing style.

I have to to say that I felt bad for Chameleon when every animal started to turn against him.
In the beginning they all thought that it was a great idea too, but in the end the just get angry.

I have to say that, this kind of behavior also applies to people in real life.
I can't tell if it is a bad or good behavior, but all I can say is that
People usually blame others for anything bad happening to them.

Instead of finding a way to solve the problem, they will put all the responsibilities on others.
Of course not everyone but most of us do.

Ok let's go back to the point,
I really like this book because it teaches children why lions are not pink or why Hippopotamus are not yellow with white stripped.

I think it is also a great way to teach children to like themselves, to accept who they are or any features they possessed.
Because we are all born unique and it is useless to change the person we are.

In the beginning, Chameleon was quite upset that no one ever pays attention to him because of its abilities to blend in his surrounding.
He said that he was sick and tired of it.

But in the end, when everything when back to normal,
He wouldn't complain anymore.

I guess he started to accept who he is and be satisfied with it.

As I said earlier, we are all unique but different but the same in some ways.

Dear Mr.Blueberry by Simon James

"Dear Mr.Blueberry" Written by Simon James

Plot: It is the story of a little girl called Emily. One day, she saw a whale living in her pond's house, as a result she started to ask information about whale to his teacher (Mr.Blueberry).

Character: Emily the little girl
                  Mr.Blueberry his teacher
                  Arthur the whale

Theme: Children's imaginary world

The story itself is really cute, it actually reminds me of a genre style called "epistolary genre" which consist of telling a story by means of exchanging letters.
I think it is an interesting way to introduce this kind of literature genre to young children.

I am quite impressed to discover that Children's book can really be subtle.

There is a part in the book that made my smile.
When Mr.Blueberry told her that whale don't live in ponds but in salt water,
Emily put some salt in the pond the next day.

I like how innocent children can be, I think it is really cute and funny.

Emily is actually quite stubborn.
Even thought Mr.Blueberry kept saying that there is no way for a whale to live in a pond,
she kept asking questions, feeding him, petting his head or even read the letters to Arthur the Whale.

Mr.Blueberry is also a really nice teacher,
instead of being annoyed by Emily's questions, he kept replying and giving her more information about whales.

Well, I think it is important for children to be imaginative, and it is also important for adults not to break their world in a harsh way.

Children's imagination is really rich and unlimited.

It reminds me of my childhood.
I used to believed that my cuddly toys were all alived, that they could talk during my sleep.
( I guess I have been influenced by "Toy Story: at that time haha)
Children believe in quite everything, it is quite unbelievable.

I think sometimes, we also have to know when to set them limit,
otherwise it can be somehow dangerous.
They have to understand that people can't fly or don't have superpowers or are not invincible...

I used to believe that I could fly, Jesus...
My imagination used to go wild.
Fortunately, there were people to take a look on me.

Well, I had a good time reading this book
Because it reminds me somehow of my childhood.
When every day was playtime and worry free ;)

In The Night Kitchen

"In The Night Kitchen"
by Maurice Sendak

Character: Mickey the little boy

Plot: Episodic plot, the story recounts many little event that happened in Mickey's dream (If only he is dreaming)

Theme: Children's imagination, the world created by children that adult cannot understand.

At first, I can say that the book smells good (I like book's smell, I am might be a freak ya)
I choose this book because I saw the word "Kitchen", anything related to food attracts me actually.

First of all I can't really tell if it was a dream or not. Because at the beginning I don't know if he woke up in the middle or the night or he was just trying to sleep.

Mickey made a plane of of cake's dough, and plunged in a big bottle of milk
That sound surreal but that little boy did it.
On the top of that, he was naked all along the story
and to tell the truth I would feel embarrassed if I was a kid.

The colors are really warm, it reminds me of the night.
The starry sky confirmed my doubts as well.

In the end, they say "And that's why, thanks to Mickey, we have cake every morning"
Well thank Mickey but I don't eat cake in the morning (laughs).

Books are interesting, when I read that story, It reminded me of my childhood.
as a kid I really liked reading books, especially picture books.
I thought it was really fun of having images and colors.

As these kind of books were generally aimed for children
I didn't open a "picture book" since this semester.

I kind of feel nostalgic, and sometimes I wished I can be a kid again,
that I can enjoy the feeling of discovering a book.
However, that part of kid didn't totally die within me.

I still enjoy reading it, I feel like a big kid in a world of adults.
Picture books are not only for kids after all.

Maybe reading books when I was little, developed in me a love for reading.
I like reading, I would rather spend my time reading than squandering time over social media.

I find comfort in books
I feel lost in those black lines, it feels like they are possessing my thoughts and my mind.

I see a story behind those lines, I see a new different world.
As an introverted I enjoy reading.
Books are like friends, it's like they are talking to you, they are telling you something.

I guess I can compare books to friends.
We choose what we read like we choose which whom we decide to spend time with.
I would stay away from toxic friends, negative friends
like I would stay away from books I judge useless to me.

I would enjoy reading books that lift me up, that teach me something meaningful.
Books are like friends, they teach you new words, new vocabulary, they broad your horizon and they make you think about the essence of life and the border of the imagination and the creativity.

Books don't have any border, creativity can't be stopped, imagination is unlimited.

Ps: I also have real friends if you are wondering

Willy The Dreamer

"Willy The Dreamer" by Anthony Browne

Character: Willy, the one on the cover

I don't think there is a plot actually, the book just relates the dreams of Willy, that's all.

Besides this, I think it's a really colorful and full of reference.
For example:
The page when Willy dreams of being a painter
(There is no pages number actually...
I believe that, each page show different dreams, different moment, the pages themselves are shown as individuals (this is how I see this book)).

Recounts me of the painter "Van Gogh"

This page reminds me of "Alice in Wonderland",
The monkey sitting on the top of the wall reminds me of "Humpty Dumpty"

and the "This is not a hat" written on the yellow hat reminds me of
"Ceci n'est pas une pipe" of René Magritte or "This is not a pipe" in english.

So this is not a hat, actually means it's a picture of a Hat.
"The treachery of images":
people have to be aware of their surrounding, because what they believe might not be real.
What they see may not be real too,
In brief appearances are deceptive.

Also, I also like the part when they say "Sometimes Willy dreams that he can't run"
Well, how about if we change the verb "dreams"by "has a nightmare"?
We sometimes experience fear in our dream,

I had many uncomfortable "Dreams" too
I "dreamed"about Death, Fire, lost, loneliness...
They were horrible, but interesting because each time I wake up, I feel really grateful and lucky.

My sister and I sometimes argue. Sometimes over trivial matter, sometimes because of our divergent outlook on life or divergent opinions.
Or just because of my bad temper and my skill to get upset quite easily (Especially with her, I don't know why but I just do).

Well anyway, sometimes I just feel "sisterly" hostility toward her sometimes not.
So, I had a "Dream" that my sister was dead, and I cried like a water fountain, I felt terribly sorrowful, terribly sad.

and then I woke up...
Besides me were lying that "idiot" I was crying over in my "Dream"

Well, she might be an idiot sometimes, but I felt really relief when I woke up,
I was afraid of losing my sister.

Actually, I love her very much even though she is can be really annoying at moment.

In this book, Willy dreamed of a lot of things.
He experienced, fear, happiness, excitement, curiosity, nostalgia, apprehension, expectation...
a bunch of mixed feelings together.

Dreaming can be nice or horrible
Sometimes in my dreams,
I can be reluctant of doing something.
Dreams are like reality for us, we are not even aware we are dreaming.

If I have the chance to recount what I dreamed of last night,
I will question myself, about why didn't I do this or that.
Because after all, it was all a dream, it was not real.

But my fears were real, that's the point.
I almost felt vulnerable and hopeless in a dream of mine, in a world that doesn't even exist.

Dreams really are interesting.

The True Story Of The 3 Little Pigs!

"The True Story of The Three Little Pigs"
by A.Wolf (funny name)

Characters:
The wolf: The main character is the wolf.
I don't really know if he is a protagonist of an antagonist actually.
Because he is not really a hero.

However I think he is a round one.
At the beginning, his intention wasn't to cause trouble to the pig, I think he is not that "bad"
All he wanted was sugar.

Setting: Backdrop
We don't know when it happened exactly.

Narrative point of view:
Internal Narrator because of the uses "I" to refer to himself.

Plot:
I think this is an episodic one.

In the end, I think it is a parody of the original story.

--------

The story is told from a different point of view, that's why I like it.
It is told from the "Big Bad Wolf" and all he said was that it was all a mistake, a terrible misunderstanding.

But of course, no one is going to believe his side of the story what a shame.
He was put in jail even if his intention wasn't to harm anyone.

But well ethically, even if someone didn't kill a person on purpose,
he will be judge and will likely go to prison to purge a sentence.

A death is a death, a murder is a murder, life is unfair and all of this was created by society.
well it's all about the "Social Contract" states by Rousseau.
"Man is born free, but he is everywhere in chains."

They say man are all born free, but in reality we cannot do what we really want.
Something invisible is controlling us, and we all know it.

Law, rules, society, social manners and even our own feelings.

"I didn't mean it"
"I shouldn't have said that"

How many times, have we hurt others but being out of control?
How many times, have we regretted what we have said under anger?
By being lured by our own feelings.

Actually one of the reason why the wolf went to jail was because in the end he was possessed by his own feeling, by his anger.

He was framed,
Maybe that wasn't entirely his fault.
The last pig was a bit mean as well.
"And your old granny can sit on a pin" he said.

Maybe the third pig had a bad day, maybe he was merely mean but anyhow
it was all about feelings haha.

Anyway,
sometimes it's better to calm down and think rationally of the situation and the of consequences,
instead of doing something on the spur of the moment and saying "oops" after.

Because sometimes, it might be too late.
And some people forgive but never forget.

"Doctor DeSoto" by William Steig

"Doctor De Soto"
by William Steig

The main reason why I chose this book, was because of its cover: It is Yellow.
I don't wear much yellow (or not at all), but I just like this color.

The second reason why I chose it, is because it seems short and I am lazy (I said it before).
However, I am trying not to (I said this too), so next time I will chose a longer one. (not because I am trying not to, but because I like to read too). (I seem really contradictory, but logical at the same time, please no need ti waste time thinking about all the nonsense I just stated previously, I don't even get it myself.)

However, even if it's short, I still can say something meaningful.

In Brief, Doctor De Soto is dentist and he is a mouse.
He is working with his wife Mrs. De Soto as his assistant.
And for their own security, they refuse to treat any dangerous animal to them, like cats and others...

Predictably, a vile predator begged them for a treatment.
They accepted and in the end, they successfully outfoxed him, because obviously he was going to eat them anyway (how ungrateful!)

What I like about this book, is the illustrations.
For god's sake, look at their tiny cute eyes, and how small they are.
They look so cute that it makes me want to squeeze them!
(I guess, I might be a dangerous animal to them too)

I think I will be a Mouse if I were a character in the story.
They will of course treat me as patient, but it doesn't mean that I won't harm them.
It is not because I look harmless, so that I actually am.

We all the same in real life,
We are all humans, we are all the same.
However, we are not harmless.
We destroy ourselves, we are our own Nemesis (how interesting).

And it reminds me of the proverb stated by Thomas Hobbes (If I got it right):
"L'homme est un Loup pour l'homme" In french, or "Homo homini Lupus" in Latin or "A man is a wolf to another man". I couldn't find the translation in Chinese, but I saw an article in Korean on it on Wikipedia (...What?!).

Which mean that "We" as Humans are likely to kill each other.
We somehow act like a wolf, fearless, cruel... big bad wolf yeah.

We love each other, we hate each other but we cannot live without one another (Really paradoxical, humans are really complicated and curious things.).

Appearance are deceptive.
Stay Alert.
